Our Story Begins Here
❊ About Us
Building Confidence.
One Hug at a Time.
In the United States, research has shown that those who identify as LGBT+ have a 120% higher risk of experiencing some form of homelessness. Although only 9.5% of the US population identifies as LGBT+, 40% of 4.2 million of today’s youth that experiences homelessness identify as LGBT+. This population of the United States disproportionately experiences homelessness compared to their straight and cisgender peers.
Mom and Dad Hug Coalition is a grassroots project founded in Lexington, Kentucky, to serve disenfranchised LGBT+ youth and young adults.
This grassroots project has several steps of growth, but will only survive with your help. This grassroots project is seeking to become a 501c3 corporation with three major goals in serving the community. First, MDHC will provide emotional support through the active use of volunteers to give hugs and conversations to those in need. Second, MDHC will create a crisis and mentor hotline with two lines of options. Option 1 will be a free therapist line to serve the LGBT+ community for those who are low-income or underinsured. Option 2 will be a mentor line that will provide volunteers to act a surrogate parents to disenfranchised LGBT+ youth and adults for a day. Whether it’s needing to have someone support them at graduation, walk you down the aisle during a wedding, or attend a gameday, we want you to know you are loved and supported. Finally, we seek to create residences with therapeutic support to keep our youth off the streets and in safe hands.
No matter where you are or what stage in life, the way you live, or express yourself, you deserve love, dignity, respect, and kindness. Mom and Dad Hug Coalition understands this best!
❊ Testimonials
Started at Home, Then became a Home to Others.
Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about our dreams as a company.
When I came out to my parents at 14, I was told that I was an abomination and should leave the home because I was too much a sinner to stay in their home. I had to live under a bridge. I had no resources or connections. I cannot wait to see the growth of this company so that no other child has to be on the streets.

When my wife and I went to my parents to invite them to our wedding, my parents said that our lifestyle was against their beliefs and they would not attend our wedding. I have not spoken to my parents since. It’s been 4 years.

I was closeted as a bisexual until my mid 30’s because of my family’s extremist religious ideologies. I watched how they abused the relationship with my uncle, who has been happily married to the love of his life as long as I can remember. No one should have to live in fear of homelessness simply for existing as their authentic self.
